Introduction
SSC GD means Staff Selection Commission-General Duty. It is also called SSC GD Constable Exam. This is a national level exam to recruit candidates for the posts of Constable (General Duty) and Rifleman (General Duty) in the following forces. · The exams for recruitment of these Posts are conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC). The SSC GD exam comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Responsibilities of SSC GD
BSF
· It is also called Border Security Forces.
· It protects the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh Border.
· It prevents Cross Border crimes, Illegal entry into or exit from the territory of India.
ITBP
· It is also called Indo Tibetan Border Police.
· It protects the border between India and China (From Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh)
· It detects and prevents from border violations
CISF
· It is also called Central Industrial Security Force
· It provides security to various PSU, Government Infrastructure Projects, Industrial units, Airport security, Delhi Metro and other Important infrastructures.
· SSG (Special Security Group) provides security cover to persons nominated by the Home Ministry
SSB
· It is also called Sahastra Seema Bal
· It monitor and prevent cross-border crimes, and other illegal activities
· It protects the border between India–Nepal and India–Bhutan.
CRPF
· It is also called Central Reserve Police Force
· It looks after Internal security in any parts of India.
· It provides VIP security, deployed in election (duties) and counter naxal operation
· It operate abroad as part of Indian Peace Keeping Force and the UN peacekeeping missions
Assam Rifles
· It provides internal security under the control of army.
· It conduct counter insurgency and border security operations
· It provide communications, medical assistance and education in remote areas.
· In the times of war, they work as a combat force to secure rear areas if needed
SSF
· It is also called Secretariat Security Force
· They are responsible for entry in Secretariat premises, posting of guards at Secretariat gates and other places of premises.
· It maintain the internal discipline, entry of vehicles and its parking, regulation for taking material out of Secretariat premises and protection of Secretariat property.
Eligibility
· Candidate must be Citizen of India.
· Candidate Age should between 18 and 23 years.
· The candidate must have passed the 10th exam from board (e.g: CBSE/Regional/ICSE). Candidates appearing on 10th is not qualified for appearing exam.

Exam Pattern
Selection Stages
The candidate have to undergo with various levels of exam to get recruited for this posts.
These exams are
· Computer Based Test (CBE).
· Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
· Physical Standard Test (PST)
· Medical Exam [(Detailed Medical Exam (DME), Review Medical Exam)]
Syllabus–Computer Based Test (Written Exam)
A candidate should cover the Syllabus before appearing the exam.
· This written exam is of 100 marks.
· Total time given to candidate is 90 minutes.
· Total Question is 100 and There is four section and each section contains 25 Question and 25 Marks.
Syllabus of Subjects are:
· English/Hindi:- (25 Question, 25 Marks)
Comprehension Writing, Sentence Formation, Para Jumbles,
Synonyms- Antonyms.
· General Intelligence and Reasoning:– (25 Question, 25 Marks)
Spatial Visualization & Orientation, Observation, Visual Memory,
Coding- Decoding, Similarities and Differences, Arithmetical Reasoning,
Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, Analogies, Recent Studies and Theories.
· General Awareness: (25 Question, 25 Marks)
Scientific Inventions, Important Dates, Culture, Sports, Awards and
Honors, Economy, Geography, General Polity, Indian/World History
· Elementary Mathematics: – (25 Question, 25 Marks)
Number System, Percentages, Averages, Ratio and Proportions,
Interests, Profit and Loss, Mensuration, Time, Distance and Work,
Fundamental Arithmetic Operations, Discount
Note:
· Candidate must write when they are confident about their answer, as there are negative marks for each wrong answer. For each wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be cut (deduction).
· Once The candidate Qualify the Written exam (Computer Based Test) , The candidate is shortlisted and called for Physical Test
Criteria for PET/PST Test
Physical Standard for PET and PST
· Height: 170 cm (Male), 157 cm (Female)
· Chest: Unexpanded- 80, Expand- 5 cm (min Expansion)
· Once the candidate Qualify the Height Test, The Male candidate have to run 5 Km in 24 minutes and The Female have to run 1.6 Kms in 8.30 minutes.
· For Ladakh Region, The Male candidate have to complete run of 1 Mile in 6.5 minutes and The Female have to run 800 meter in 4 minutes.
· The candidate who Qualifies the Physical Test (PET/PST) are called for DME (Detailed Medical Exam) and RME (Review Medical Exam) conducted by CAPFs (if applicable).
Salary Structure
The SSB GD Salary Range varies from 21000 to 69500 (Approx.) per month. Apart from Salary they receive Allowances and Benefits like Transportation Allowance, Medical Facilities, Pension schemes, Annual paid leaves, Security allowances and Field allowances
Job Profile and Career growth (Promotion)
· The SSC GD is initially appointed as a Guard or Escort. They have to supervise or work all the task in the absence of Sub-Inspector and Assistant Sub-Inspector.
· They may get cases for Investigation.
· They have to work under SHO and follow his instructions.
· They are Promoted into various Posts of Senior Constable, Head Constable, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Sub Inspector and Inspector
