Stenographer
Stenographer is also called Short hand writer. He is a person who writes down when somebody speaks (he documented what other speaks). He uses Short hand and Steno machine to transcribe information.
Staff Selection Commission conducts Stenographer exam every year. It recruit for Stenographer Grade C and Grade D for various ministries/department/organization
The job of a Stenographer is according to grade and the place where he is posted. The primary work of a Stenographer is to assist their senior/supervisors in various ministries and departments such as: Speech writing, Briefing, Assisting a Minister or Officer and it also helps in Public Relations.
SSC Stenographer Positions
The posting of Stenographer depends upon the marks or grade they qualify for. The candidates who get higher grades are posted in Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and below are posted in Grade ‘D’.

Eligibility
a) Nationality/Citizenship
The candidate must be
•Citizen of India OR
•Subject of Nepal or Bhutan OR
•Tibetan refugee who came to India before Jan 01, 1962 with intention to live in India permanently. OR
•The Indian origin (person) who has migrated from Burma, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Vietnam with purpose of permanently settling in India
The candidate requires a certificate of eligibility (on the above category) from the Indian Government except Citizen of India category
b) Age Limit
•Age Limit of Stenographer Grade “C” — 18 to 30 years
•Age Limit of Stenographer Grade “D”–18 to 27 years

d) Education Qualification
The candidate must have passed his/her Class12 or Intermediate from the recognized board or university.
Syllabus for STENOGRAPHERS (GRADE ‘C’ & ‘D’)
1) Computer Based Mode Examination:
Below is the Syllabus for Computer Based Mode Examination:
General Intelligence & Reasoning:
•It includes verbal & non-verbal question type.
•Question on topic: Analogies, Similarities and differences, Space visualization, Problem solving, Analysis, Judgement, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series, arithmetical computation etc.
General Awareness:
•Here Questions are designed to test the knowledge of general awareness of the society, current event, environment, current affairs etc.
•It includes questions on India & its neighboring countries related to Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic scene, General Polity including Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research etc.
•Candidates can prepare this test by regular study of newspaper, watching news and magazines related to current affairs.
Note:
Candidates who have 40% or more visual disability /cerebral palsy, there will be no component of Maps/Graphs/Diagrams/Statistical Data in the General Intelligence & Reasoning / General Awareness Paper.
English Language & Comprehension:
•Here, Question is based on understanding of the English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and its correct usage etc.
•The candidate writing capability would also be tested.
Note:
Candidate must write when they are confident about their answer, as there are negative marks for each wrong answer. For each wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be cut (deduction).
The candidates who qualify in the Above Examination is called for Skill test in Stenography.
(2) Skill test in Stenography:
•The SSC (commission) will specify cut-off (qualifying) marks in each part of Examination. The skill test will be of qualifying nature and the Commission will fix the cut-off standards in the skill test for different categories of candidates. (Qualifying marks of General category will be different from SC/ST or different for Visual Handicapped candidate).
•The candidates have to write for 10 minutes in English/Hindi at the speed of 100 w.p.m. for Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and 80 w.p.m. for the Stenographer Grade ‘D’ post. The candidate has to write the exact paragraph which is already there.
The transcription time is as follows: –
For Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 50 minutes (English)
65 minutes (Hindi)
For Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 40 minutes (English)
55 Minutes (Hindi)

Note:
HRA varies depending on the city. For e.g.: HRA in New Delhi will be different from Agra. Thus, HRA, DA, TA varies on Location. Thus, Salary varies on posting on city.
