Food Corporation of India
Introduction
Food Corporation of India is an Organization that comes under Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India. The FCI was formed under Food Corporation Act 1964.
It was first set up in 1965 and its initial headquarter was in Chennai, later, shifted to New Delhi. The FCI is divided into 5 zones like Zonal Office: North (Noida), South (Chennai),East (Kolkata), West (Mumbai) and North-East (Guwahati). The FCI is the largest supply chain management in Asia.
The Staff Selection Commission conducts the SSI FCI to recruit various candidates in FCI category. There are 4000+ post in this category. The candidate who is recruited through FCI is not a central civilian employee but the candidate is a full time employee of Food corporation, thus, he/she has to abide the rules of Food corporation.
Why FCI was Set up?
FCI was set up to implement the following objectives of the National Food Policy.
- The government procure/purchase some percentage (say 15-20%) of the grains by the farmer at the price (also called MSP) to safeguard the interest of the poor farmers.
- Deployment/Distribution of food grains all over the country.
- It also helps in maintaining stock so that there is no shortage of grain at the time of calamities or natural disaster.
- It also regulates the market price to provide food grains to consumer at a reliable price (price not too high nor too low)

Examination
The candidate who is qualified in FCI has to undergo in three phases of exam Phase I, Phase II & Phase III
Phase I
- Phase I exam is also called Online and Pre-liminary exam. The pattern of this question Multiple choice Objective Question.
- Subject asked in this Phase is English Language (30 Question, 30 Marks, 20 Minutes) , Reasoning Ability -Bilingual (35 Question, 35Marks, 20 Minutes) and Numerical Aptitude-Bilingual (35 Question, 35 Marks, 20 Minutes).
- The total Question & Marks is 100 and Total duration is 1 hour
- There is no negative marks. So, candidate can do guess work as well.

- English:– Fill in the Blanks, Paragraph Comprehension, Reading Comprehension, Para Jumbles, Cloze Test, Synonyms, Antonyms, Multiple meanings, Error Spot
- Reasoning Ability:-Coding-Decoding, Data Sufficiency, Input-Output, Logical Reasoning, Puzzle, Blood Relation, Alphanumeric Series, Ranking, Alphabet, Seating Arrangement
- Numerical Aptitude:-Profit-Loss, Ratio-Proportion, Cylinder, Cone, Sphere, Sequence-Series, Number Systems, Data Interpretations, Time-Distance, Work-Time, Simple & Compound Interest, Permutation & Combination, Probability
Candidate who passes the Phase I exam is called for Phase II
Phase II
Phase II is post specific test. The candidates have to give one or two paper depending upon the post.
