Junior Engineer
Introduction
SSC conducts examination for the post of junior engineers for engineering background in various streams or branches like Civil, Mechanical & Electrical. There are 1600 (around) vacancies of junior engineers. The candidate who is selected for junior engineer will be posted under Group-B Non Gazetted category by the SSC.
Responsibilities of Junior Engineers
- The Engineers have to supervise and understand functions and goal of the organization.
- The Engineers have to make estimates, plan for repairs & renovation and can know the work of contractor and handle workers/laborers.
- The Engineers must maintain bills for all work administered by contractors.
- The Engineers must have understanding of Government Schemes and make sure of the smooth workflow of these schemes.
- The Engineers have to inform their higher authority of their daily work in form of report.
- The Engineers must take care of the equipment used in the project.
Eligibility
The candidate must fulfil the required status before appearing for the exam.
Nationality
The candidate must be
- Citizen of India OR—-(A)
- Subject of Nepal or Bhutan OR
- Tibetan refugee who came to India before Jan 01, 1962 with intention to live in India permanently. OR
- The Indian origin (person) who has migrated from Burma, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Vietnam with purpose of permanently settling in India
The candidate requires a certificate of eligibility (on the above category) from the Indian Government except Citizen of India (A) category.
Education
The candidate must be complete his/her degree or diploma in Civil/Mechanical/Electrical
Age Limit
Candidate age must not be more than 32 years (age up to 32 years). However, there is age relaxation for various reserved category candidate

Note:
- CPWD : Central Public Work Department. It basically take charge of public sector works like building roads, buildings, flyovers, stadiums, bunkers etc.
- MES:- Military Engineering Services—It provides Infrastructure to the Armed forces.
SSC Junior Engineer Exam Pattern
- The candidate has to qualify two papers for recruitment Paper I and Paper II.
- Paper I is Online Mode. This is Multiple Choice Question Paper.
- Subjects in Paper I is General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 Question, 50 Marks), General Awareness (50 Question, 50 Marks) and General Engineering (100 Question, 100 Marks) (The candidate have to opt Civil & Structural/Electrical/Mechanical whichever they have passed their engineering).
- Total time given in Paper I is 2 hours (120 minutes). However, 160 minutes is given to Physical Handicapped/Disabled Candidates
- Once you clear Paper I, then you have to come for Paper II.
- Paper II is also called Descriptive paper. This is an Offline mode.
- The Paper II consists of General Engineering (The candidate have to opt Civil & Structural/Electrical/Mechanical whichever they have passed their engineering).
- Total Marks is 300 and Total time given in Paper II is 2 hours (120 minutes).
- The Mode of Question in Paper I & II is English & Hindi.
- There is a deduction of 0.25 Marks in every wrong answer.
- Minimum Qualification Marks in Paper I and Paper II is General Candidate: 30% , OBC & Ex-Servicemen: 25% and other all categories (Like SC/ST etc) : 20%
- After Qualifying in both Paper, candidate will be called for Medical Examination. Once Medical Examination is successfully done, the candidate will be called for Detailed Document Verification.

Growth and Promotion
- The Junior Engineer Salary is incremented according to their performance and then 07thPay Commission.
- The candidate is promoted to Executive Engineer and Section Engineer.
