Translators 

 

Introduction

Translator, as the word says, the job of a candidate or recruit is to translate documents from Hindi to English or vice-versa. There are certain categories of job as a Translator like Junior and Senior Hindi Translator, Hindi Pradhyapak for various Department/Ministries/Organizations in the Government of India. The exam for hiring those post for Junior Translators or Junior Hindi Translators is conducted by SSC. There are 283 vacancies (approx.) overall in this category.

 

 

 

 

                  

 

Responsibility of Junior Translators in various  department

• Candidate have to Translate/interpret various documents from Hindi to English and vice-versa.
• The Recruit have to maintain the files and Records relating to office work.
• The Employee have to transcribe/translate various publications (like official journals, book, form, circular, manual etc) and day to day official letters, departmental orders etc. from English to Hindi and vice versa.
• Candidate have to assist Hindi Officer in organizing Hindi Meeting and Hindi Workshop.
• The candidate has to do several other jobs assigned by the superior authority.
• They/Hindi Pradhyapak have to act like a Teaching officer for Hindi Teaching Scheme.

 

Eligibility

Nationality

The candidate must be

• Citizen of India OR—-(A)
• Subject of Nepal or Bhutan OR
• Tibetan refugee who came to India before Jan 01, 1962 with intention to live in India permanently. OR

The Indian origin (person) who has migrated from Burma, Srilanka, Pakistan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Vietnam with purpose of permanently settling in India

The candidate requires a certificate of eligibility (on the above category) from the Indian Government except Citizen of India (A) category.

 

Age Limit

 

The candidate who is appearing for this exam age must be in between 18 to 30 years. However, there is certain relaxation of age for reserved candidate

Junior Translator in

• Central Secretariat Official Language Service
• Ministry of Railways (Railway Board)
• Armed Forces Headquarters (AFHQ)

Junior Translator/Junior Hindi Translator in subordinate offices (who have adopted Model RRs of Department of Personnel & Training for JT/JHT)

• Candidate must have a Master’s degree (recognized/Approved University) in Hindi with English and vice-versa (English with Hindi) as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level;

 

     OR

• Aspirant must have a Master’s degree (Accredited/recognized University) in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi medium or English Medium and English or Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject at the degree level;

 

   OR

• Candidate must have a Master’s Degree (Approved/Recognized University) in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects or either of the two as a form/medium of examination and the other as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level

 

 AND

• Candidate have to take Diploma or Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English & vice versa from a recognized institute or two years of working experience as a translator from Hindi to English and vice versa in Government Office (State or Central).

Senior Hindi Translator in various Central Government Ministries/Departments (Offices)

For this post, candidates must have accredited/approved diploma or certificate course in translation from Hindi to English and Vice Versa or three years of working experience as a translator from Hindi to English and Vice Versa in Government Office (Central or State).

 

Syllabus

The candidate has to qualify both Paper I & Paper II to get recruiter for the post. Below is the Syllabus that candidate have to prepare

 Paper I

• It is also called computer-based examination (Online mode).
• It is objective type paper
• Subjects are General Hindi (100 Question, 100 Marks) and General English (100 Question, 100 Marks).
• Total time in exam is 2 hours and 2 hours 40 minutes for VH/OH/HH handicapped candidate ( Blindness & Low vision, Deaf & hard of hearing, Locomotor disability, Autism etc)
• The questions are set to examine/test the Aspirant/Candidate’s proficiency over the languages and literature, correct use of words, phrases and idioms and the ability to write the languages correctly and accurately.
• The questions will be of degree level.
• The candidate must have to write the answers in which they are confident of as there is marks cut of 0.25 for each wrong answer.

Paper II

• It is descriptive type paper
• Subjects are Translation & Essay (200 Marks).
• Total time given in exam is 2 hours and 2 hours 40 minutes for visual handicapped candidate.
• This paper contains two passages for translation – one passage for translation from Hindi to English and the other for translation from English to Hindi.
• An Essay each in Hindi and English, to evaluate  the candidate’s translation skills and their capability to write and  understand the two languages correctly, precisely and effectively.
• The volume/degree/level of the paper will be compatible according to educational qualifications

Note:

• The candidate who has applied for junior translator in BRO (Border Road Organization) has to go under Physical and Medical Test. Candidate who fails in this test, his candidature will not be considered for any other post/department.
• Minimum Qualifying marks in Paper I & Paper II is General: 30% , OBC/Ex-servicemen: 25% and Others:20% .

Promotion

The Employee (Junior Translators) are promoted under different Government departments. However, the time frame is different in each department. Many times, candidate have to take departmental exams for promotion.
