Introduction

SSC is called Staff Selection Commission (Previously called Subordinate services commission). This is an organization which comes under Indian Government to recruit or select staff for various posts in the various Ministries and Departments of the Indian Government and in Subordinate Offices.  SSC was established on Nov 04, 1975. The SSC is full regards of the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT). The functions of SSC was again defined on May 21, 1999 by the Government of India and thus, the new constitution and functions of Staff Selection commission came into effect from June 1, 1999.

 

SSC Offices

The Head office of SSC (Staff Selection Commission) is located at New Delhi.  Other SSC offices are at Prayagraj, Mumbai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Chennai, Bengaluru, Raipur and Chandigarh.

SSC Exam Eligibility (General)

The candidate who is appearing for SSC Exam must be an Indian Citizen. The Education Qualification varies for different posts. However Minimum Intermediate (or 12th) pass is required from the recognized college or school in various exam. The Age limit for SSC exam is minimum 18 years to maximum 32 years, but there is relaxation of age for certain caste like SC/ST/OBC/Handicapped etc.

 

1)Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL)

A) Eligibility

The Eligibility for SSC CGL  (Combined Graduate Level)  is as follows:

a) Nationality/Citizenship

The candidate must be

•Citizen of India OR

•Subject of Nepal or Bhutan OR

•Tibetan refugee who came to India before Jan 01, 1962 with intention to live in India permanently. OR

•The Indian origin (person) who has migrated from Burma, Srilanka, Pakistan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Vietnam with purpose of permanently settling in India.

 

b) Age Limit and Relaxation for Special Categories

Age limit varies from 18 to 32 years depending upon the position. However, There is Age relaxation for special category candidate

Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer

Essential Qualification: Graduation from a recognized university or institute

Desirable Qualification: CA (Chartered Accountant) or Cost & Management Accounting or Company Secretary or Masters in Commerce or Masters in Business Studies or Masters in Business Administration (Finance) or Masters in Business Economics

Junior Statistical Officer

Essential Qualification: Graduation in any subject from a recognized university or institute with at least 60 per cent marks in Mathematics at Class 12 /Intermediate OR Graduation in any subject but Statistics should be one of the subjects at graduation level

Desirable Qualification: Not applicable

Statistical Investigator Grade-II

Essential Qualification: Graduation in any subject but Statistics should be one of the subject from a recognized university or institute. The candidate must have studied Statistics as a subject in all the three years of the graduation course.

Desirable Qualification: Not applicable

All other posts

Essential Qualification: Graduation in any subject from a recognized university or institute

Desirable Qualification: Not applicable

 

 Note: The Candidate who is appearing in Final year of Graduation can also apply for the exam. However, the candidate must appear the essential qualification certificate on or before Aug 01, 2021

 C) Stages of Exam and topic to be covered

There is Stages of exams in GGL Examination process and the candidate must cover the topic before appearing for the examination

a)Preliminary

It contains objectives multiple-choice exam with four section covering the topic of

•General Intelligence and Reasoning [50 Marks]

•General Awareness [50 Marks]

•Quantitative Aptitude [50 Marks]

•English Comprehension [50 Marks]

 

IF you are Qualified in Preliminary then you will appear for  Mains and then Descriptive Exam

b) Mains Exam

This exam consists of written objective multiple-choice question , in four sections (also called “Papers”), covering the subjects of:

•Quantitative Aptitude [200 Marks]

•English Language and Comprehension [200 Marks]

•Statistics [200 Marks]

•General Studies [200 Marks] which is further divided into: Finance & Accounting and Economics & Governance.

The exam was  scored with maximum 200 Marks per section. Most positions (Designation or Post) required the candidate to take only the first two sections (Paper-I: Quantitative Aptitude, Paper-II: English Language and Comprehension), but certain positions like Statistics or Auditing kind of post require the third or fourth section

c) Descriptive Paper Exam

This  exam requires candidates  to write in the form of essay writing and letter writing, and sometimes précis and application writing. The exam is done in either English or Hindi.

d) Data Entry Skill Test / Computer Proficiency Test

In 2016, This Exam was added with two possible exams depending on the positions applied.

Data Entry Speed Test (DEST): Candidates must enter data at the rate of 2000 key presses in 15 minutes. This test is taken  for positions such as Tax Assistant. (Central Excise & Income Tax)

Computer Proficiency Test (CPT): It cover the topics of word processing, spreadsheets, and making slides.

 Other exams

Other exams are required for certain positions. The types included

Physical Endurance Test / Medical Examination for Central Police Organization (CPO)

Personality Test / Interview (It is discontinued from 2016)
